Monday 10th February marks first day of looking after patients at new Minchinhampton GP premises.
Minchinhampton Surgery has moved to its new home in the state-of-the-art facility on the Cirencester Road and opened its doors to its patients at 8.00am on Monday 10th February 2025.
This project has been ten years in development and after a year of building work, the surgery will now offer more accessible, modern medical facilities as well as a dental practice and allied health services.
Fifty years and several extensions and partitions later, the old surgery building in Bell Lane, which is too small to offer all the services our patients deserve, will be closed.
After over a decade of planning, consultation and applications, building work on the new surgery started a little over a year ago.
Project Manager Shaun Smith from builders Markey Construction, said:
“We have battled the elements to deliver an excellent building for the community. The key to delivering this project has been maintaining high standards until the end, even when under time pressure.”
Cutting edge design and technology ensure the building is environmentally friendly, spacious and flexible enough for the challenges ahead and comfortable for all who visit.
Practice GP, Dr Freddie Walker said:
“We are delighted to be moving into the new building. Our team cannot wait to get up and running and provide excellent care for our growing population. We are proud and thankful that we have been able to deliver this in the face of challenging and turbulent times in the NHS.”
Given the large area this rural practice covers, the improved access by road, onsite parking and easy accessibility within the building, should make getting looked after easier for patients.
Helen Goodey, Director of Primary Care and Place at NHS Gloucestershire said:
“Working together over the past decade, the NHS and the practice have overcome many challenges to enable this new surgery to come to fruition. It is a real asset for the local community and will allow the practice to extend the range of high-quality services it offers.”
This has been a tremendous undertaking and required years of work from a huge number of people to get this project to completion. The practice team are incredibly grateful to the countless members of the community, development team, wider NHS and NHS Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board for getting this over the line.
Dr Walker added:
“Thank you to local residents for your patience with the project and managing the disruption to your lives. We look forward to a future offering the best healthcare possible.”
