People from communities across Gloucestershire are invited to come and find out what steps they can take to help them build the resilience to lead happy, healthy and longer lives.

‘Living Well Ageing Well Week’ runs until Saturday July 8 and aims to determine what is important to people as they age and what support might help them keep well and live independently.

NHS Gloucestershire’s Ageing Well Team will be out and about on the Information Bus, inviting members of the public to come and share what matters to them about ageing.

These conversations, which aim to provide valuable information including what barriers people experience to keeping well, will also help shape future care.

Jane Haros, Deputy Director of Integrated Commissioning at NHS Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire County Council said: “This is an opportunity to hear directly from the public about what matters to them as they age.

“We want to find out what their worries are. These might include concerns about losing their independence, mobility, memory changes or support for carers and we also want to find out what local amenities are important to them, if there are barriers to them maintaining independence such as transport, and if there are particular concerns such as the impact of the cost of living crisis or digital exclusion.

“Having good levels of resilience allows people to bounce back from adversity, illness, trauma or other stress and is associated with healthy ageing, lower levels of depression, faster recovery from illness and improved quality of life.

“We want to understand what’s important to the people of Gloucestershire and this isn’t just aimed at older people, anyone can engage with us.”

Every day this week, members of the Ageing Well Team will be joined by colleagues from partner organisations Age UK, Healthwatch Gloucestershire and the Carers Hub who will share information, tips and guidance.

If people are unable to get to the information bus sessions, they are encouraged to complete a brief survey which will help the Team with future plans and priorities.
