Important information about Covid treatments for high risk patients

These treatments can reduce the chance of you getting seriously ill from Covid and need to be given quickly after you start to have symptoms.

Please note this is only for high risk patients as defined by the NHS. If you are not sure if you are a high risk patient then please check here first – Treatments for COVID-19 (www.nhs.uk) click on the ‘People at highest risk’, or if you are still not sure then contact your GP practice.

Please note that the service is only able to prescribe for people registered with a GP in Gloucestershire. If you are visiting Gloucestershire from another area, please contact your own GP.  If necessary, they will be able to arrange for a prescription to be send electronically to a Gloucestershire pharmacy.

You may have previously been told that the NHS would contact you about treatment once you report a positive Covid test. This is no longer the case.

You should keep lateral flow tests at home.

You should keep lateral flow tests at home, but only use them if you get symptoms.

If you do not have any tests, you may be able to access these at your local pharmacy, free of charge if you are eligible for COVID-19 treatments (www.nhs.uk).

To find out if your local pharmacy offers this service, check on Find a pharmacy (www.nhs.uk).

Enter your postcode into the box, press enter and select your pharmacy of choice.

Click on ‘Treatment and Services’ link, and if COVID-19 lateral flow tests (eligible NHS patients) appears under the lists of treatments the pharmacy provides, be assured the pharmacy should be able to provide lateral flow tests to those eligible.

If this does not appear, please select your next preferred local pharmacy.

It is advisable to take the letter than confirms if you are eligible for COVID-19 treatments to the pharmacy. Although this is not strictly necessary, it is desirable.

The pharmacy may ask you questions regarding your medical history to confirm if you are eligible for free tests if you do not present the letter.
